Love Extended

People all over the world celebrate Valentine’s Day. Shops are glittering with charming presents for couples celebrating Valentine’s Day. I’m sure there are plenty of couples trying to figure out what would be appropriate gifts for their respective beloved. There is so much to choose from; what would be most suitable, some may be pondering. It is great to see couples appreciating one another.

However as I pondered over the events for the past month and a half, I could not help but think about many who have suffered much loss, grief and pain over the recent flooding and cyclones affecting our state of Queensland. Then I began to ponder, could we also extend the celebration of Valentine’s Day to encompass others into our lives. Since Valentine’s Day is a day where we express our love and appreciation for our beloved, how about choosing to extend love to our friends and the community we are connected with. After all, the love of God covers a vastness of people. Jesus came to die and to save humanity, not just for a few but the whole world of humanity. (John 3:16-17). Jesus has demonstrated the real meaning of love; a love that is broad yet deep and all encompassing. Because of Jesus, we who have chosen to put our trust in Him, have now received eternal life; the gift that would last for all eternity.

Just as Christ came to give, I am also convicted that we can play a part in expressing our love to others who have been affected by the recent calamities over our state. We can demonstrate the true meaning of love to others. How do you think we can shower God’s love to others?

Love may take the form of visiting some friends who have been affected by the recent events. Some words of cheer and encouragement from us can go a long way to boost up their morale. It helps friends to know that we do care and we are concerned for their well being.

Being a listening ear to those in the community can be another way of showing our love and care for them as well. At times, people need pour out what was within their hearts during those hours of great uncertainty . The fact that we are here for them and being patient enough to her them out; letting them express their thoughts, worries and anxieties etc is a good way to exhibit that we are concerned for them. Having the opportunity to process their grief and loss to a safe person provides a healing ground for our community.

I am sure that many of us have donated finances, goods etc to assist people affected by the floods. Practical assistance is another fantastic way to show our care and love.

However, I personally feel that as Christian, we can show the real meaning of love by also praying for those affected. God can move through people’s hearts in greater dimensions that we can ever perceive. If we would each day remember our friends and the communities recovering from the aftermath of flooding and cyclones before the Lord, I believe their lives would be blessed tremendously. Perhaps our friends and communities would also come to experience the strength and comfort of God and His everlasting love towards them. We can pray that many of them would come to experience God’s eternal love and are impacted by His perfect peace filling their hearts.

Friends, let’s continue to love God’s way and through that may many lives be beautifully restored to the King of Kings, Jesus!

God Bless!

Praying with and for you,
Ps Lai Lim
